The Shroud wouldn't need baffling, You usually put baffling closer to
the
primary in a newt.

The extension keeps stray light out and on a SCT "ricebox" also serves
the purpose of keeping dew off the corrector plate.
There is a good article on baffling a newt in the Sept. issue of 
Astronomy.
