I, and others in my area, have been using some stuff called Paraply, available
at Home Depot building supply places. It has more plies that the usual birch ply
& is denser. Also cheaper, a sheet of 3/4 is $35 or so. Available in 1/4 and 1/2
also (actually 6, 12, and 19 mm?). It looks like birch after stain & varnish.
