AstroFest Activities -- Update

I recently received a message concerning one-day mirror
making at the Canadian StarFest, to wit, they give the
mirror away at the end!  Well, that's a great idea!  So,
on Saturday night the mirror will be given to one of the
people who helped make it, CMAA members excluded.  We'll
have everyone who helped initial a label which will be
placed on the back of the mirror after silvering.  Then
about 10 pm Saturday night we'll draw for the mirror.

The current thought is to show up Friday with two
grinding stands and do some demonstrations late that
afternoon and that night.  We'll have a finished scope
with a long-focus 6-inch mirror that will have been
made using our simplified method, and we'll be looking
through this instrument Friday and Saturday night.

We will also have a finished Dobsonian tube assembly
and cradle to accept the "mirror-in-a-day" when it is
completed late Saturday, if the creeks do not rise.

Our other demos will include fine-grinding on 10-inch
and 12.5-inch blank and tool sets.

We hope to keep complete written and photographic logs
of the the "mirror-in-a-day" process, which we hope
will be a lot of fun for all involved. We'll see!
