Two years ago I built a small,  4.5", carry strap over your shoulder,
"portable"  Newtonian using PVC. I went to the plumbing house to price 6"
PVC. It was only sold in 20' lengths if I remember  correctly and was
absolutely outrageously priced! Like several hundred dollars once you break
the 6" barrier.

The guy suggested I try a local plumber for scraps, which is what I did. 

It is heavy, but stronger than most anything else.
