Tom,
Military surplus is a good place to look. I have purchased some
8-1/2" x 3/4" as well as one 16" x 3/4" port hole from our local
Army/Navy surplus. They also had some 10-1/2 x 3/8", if sombody
I have also found a 10-1/2 x 3/4" from a local metal recycler who
specializes in scraping ships.
I am still looking for the 'dream' glass.
Annother place to look is the Defense Reutilization and Marketing
Service/Office (DRMS or DRMO). They have auctions as well as some
retail stores around the USA. A friend bought a 'lot' of 12-1/2 x 1"
port holes at auction and was kind enough to give me one. He gave the
rest away years ago for plant stands!!
DRMS is also a good place for motors, bearings and other miscellaneous
hardware. A recent auction sold two laboratory interferometers for
$1200.
DRMS has a homepage at http://www.drms.dla.mil/index.html.
Regards,
Mike
