ATM Re: atm-digest V1 #277
ATMers:
Is there a version of NEWT later than 2.0? If so, how can I get it?
Also, concerning the submission of articles to various publications for
monetary reward:
I obviously can't pay a bunch of money for articles for ATM Journal. Even if
I could, it would be a disservice to many telescope makers. Why? Because if I
had to pay for articles, I would most certainly have to limit the field to
those of KNOWN ability and experience. I have learned through my limited
experience as a publisher that some of the people who say the MOST are the
ones with the LEAST to say. It is not uncommon to find individuals who, while
theyseem to be local legends, would shrink into obscurity if placed in a room
with serious and experience telescope makers and optical engineers. A good
handle on the English language may make one come across as a whiz on the
internet. However, it in no way means that any given individual is totally at
home with the subject matter.
As long as we are amateurs, we have room to move -- room to make mistakes.
When we attach a price tag to ourselves, we had better be on the mark. My
REAL job is in optics -- mainly instrument repair -- and I'm published about
half a dozen times a year. To date, I have received a grand total of zero
dollars and zero cents. This, of course, will not deter me from continuing to
write with and without request.
Just a thought,
