I have a right-angle 8x50 finder that I use on my Dob. I found mounting rings to be exhorbitantly-priced...in many cases they cost more than the finder itself! So I mortised some rings I cut out of plywood into the tube box and drilled and threaded screws into the perimeter of them. Finally, I put dabs of silicone caulk on the ends.
This worked fine for awhile, but always had a little too much "play" and of course the plywood has now started to split at the screws. I'm looking for a more durable option. Anyone have an idea on where I can get iron/aluminum rings that will serve?
