I just picked up that issue of S&T this weekend. The author quickly backed off of his claim saying he was told that the focault test was at best able to give a 1/20 wave accuracy. I think he brought up the 1/100 figure because he is obviously a man with considerable technical ability and wanted to impress others with his total overall ability.

What made the whole article even more interesting to me was that a few pages later you had John Dobson looking into an unfinished sonotube. What a contrast in philosophy.

I have my son finishing up the polishing of an 8 inch scope even as I type. I went to by a 10 inch sonotube today and was told they don't come in that size. Is that correct? Is 10 inch a good size to house an 8 inch mirror? Next size up from 8 inch they claimed was 12. That sounds a bit large.

Thanks for any info.
