As near as makes no difference, you are correct -- youcan get "elutriating times" for different particle sizes, but I find these pretty useless since they are based on a 1 metre column of water :-)

Actually, I just siphon off the clear water -- seems a bit futile to risk recontamination just to dry out something you're going to use wet! :-)
