(ATM) "Daisey Sight" as a finder

I noticed the discussion on "Daisey Sights" in sci.astro.amateur and just as the discussion got interesting my USENET feed choked. Sorry if you've all heard this before.

Anyway, I went out and bought one (mine has the "Tasco" name on it, not "Daisey", but I'm sure it's the same thing). It's really neet, but I haven't used it on the night sky yet. I see a few problems with it:

1) the partially silvered mirror dims stars too much; 2) the red dot is too bright (partly because of the silvering) 3) the red dot is not quite at infinity and shows noticible paralax

Is the silvered element flat (so it can be replaced) or is it a meniscus, as someone suggested?

I'll probably add a pot to the circuit. Any other suggestions? Orion's has a three pos'n switch (off-low-high).

If I'm going to take it apart, is it easy to re-tune the optics to put the dot's image at infinity?
