atm Going to well?

Finally started pushing glass last night. After about 1 hour and 5 to 6 wets with 60 carbo decided to call it quits. Wanted to look at the book and see if some of what I read now made more sense. Was supprised when I checked with a straight edge this morning that the curve went almost from edge to edge. About 1/2 inch short. Took it outside and did a rough estimate on focal lenght and ballpark it is about a foot long. Would it be wise to start with the 80 grit already? I figure that is going to still take out quite a bit of the pyrex.
