I did this for my dob, but rather than using the set screw, I drilled the hole slightly larger and inserted a small piece of shim-stock which acts as a springy filler and keeps everything tight. I also mounted the encoder with a sheet metal (1/16" alum) bracket that "took up" and "out-of-centerness" in my hole drilling...Dave
