Go slow and smooth, completing full turns around the barrel. Sometimes one or two turns is all it takes. Dilute the polishing compound with extra water to cut down on action. Test frequently. If you are getting close, go slow and careful. Don't overshoot and, in the attempt to fix, makes things so bad that you have to go back to spherical or smooth severe undercorrection.
