Re: [ATM] My scope

Gerald;

F-8 is usually considered a 'planetary scope' and f-6 and faster
(richest field scope, RFT) is more of a deep sky type of scope. The
reason for this is that the f-8 gives a smaller field of view than an
RFT, allowing the planets to appear bigger in the eyepiece, and
thusly see more detail. The RFT will allow a larger field of view
(FoV) to see more of the deep sky objects, which usually cover a
larger portion of the FoV than a planet or asteroid, etc.

Either focal length will work very nicely for an 8" mirror. An f-8
doesn't take as long to grind as an f-6. Personal preference is the
name of the game on smaller scopes.

Hope that helps some.

If at first you don't succeed, maybe you shouldn't try sky diving!
