actually... it is a hoax and it has been a hoax in the years since mars was at
it's closest with earth several years ago... this hoax started the next year
after the event and has been being passed around about this time each year...

i don't doubt any of this, either... it is possible that some sightings and such
are from this effect but i've never seen anything pointing to this...
temperature inversion and such, yes...

do you have any of those pictures posted on a sight somewhere? i'm sure that
others would like to see them ;)
