An excellent point. You should make the telescope you
want to make. That is the whole point. There is no
doubt that one can make a parabolic mirror without a
class. There has never been so many good sources of
information and help. I did not mean to imply that
one could not do it, or that one should not, it is
simply not what I would suggest from my own experience
- which admittedly is much less than many on this
list.

I do not consider an excellent spherical mirror as a
compromise. It does require some design considerations
(f10+ or flexed), but it produces an excellent
telescope. Also, an excellent spherical mirror is not
easy to make. (at least for me!)
