Re: [ATM] Scratches keep forming on edge of mirror
It depends upon where you get your language from as to whether it
is stone or plaster, I think.
It kind of reminds me of the old British lady that went to a posh
NY hotel and told the bellboy "come knock me up about seven in
the morning" expecting that the bellboy or somebody wouuuuulld
come and give a knock on her door at seven. Little did she know
that she said something rather different to our American ears.
The jproblem with POP is that it dissolvves in water after a
period of time so you have to fully encapsuleate it from the
water to keep it strong. AFIK, all of the dental stuff wonn't do
that which is why I use it. I guess that I could be using
something like Hydrostone from US Gypsum but tht is usually in
large bags and, for the average grinder, will be at least as
expensive and a lot will just sit in a corner getting solid as it
won't be stored in an airtight container. The dental stuff,
while more expensive per pound, will be more than suffifient for
the one or a few time mirrormaker and that is where I have put
more of my effort into the articles.
FWIW, I've started on some small lenses (I think that they are
binocular or finder lenses_ of the sixty mm size with the wife of
one of the grinders in my class and one of the lenses had a bunch
of scratches that went in about a quarter inch and looked like
what yours probably look like. Only one of seven lenses had this
problem. Now I've got to figure out what the glue is on the
other side and remove it before fine grinding that side and that
is going to be fun as GooOff doesn't seem to be touching it.
