I agree that flake board would not be suitable. However, the material he
showed is, I believe, OSB, which in the US is called OSB. It comes in
exterior grades, which are supposedly similar in properties to plywood.
The OSB dob mount I had was wonderful (certainly much better than the
particle board ones sold on many commercial scopes), and lasted for many
years until I replaced it with a lighter mount, as OSB is heavier than
plywood, which is probably not a big burden for a polishing tool, unless
it's a very big one.
