If you have a small gas torch (like what cooks use to flame deserts and
such) use it to flame the top of the lap, you just want to remelt the top
1/32" or so this will let the contaminants sink and leave you with clean
pitch to polish with.
Down side is you will need to re-press the lap.....

Okay roger that on the protecting pitch lap...something that has not been
necessary until now...tho i understand that it is recommended widely...
So is the general opinion that i need to make a new a lap or???
Is there any senario that will allow me to continue using the present lap???
