I have found 29mm Particle Board very easy and very good for making pitch
laps. It is lite, strong and very stable. Having no grain, it does not warp
and is the same strength in any direction. If it is going to get wet, and
it probably will, paint it well. If it absorbs moisture it will swell.
I used double thickness for my 20". To glue it I simply daubed one surface
all over with PVA glue, lined them up in the vice and clamped it round the
edges. No need for nails.
To remove the pitch, put it in the freezer (if it will fit) then put it in a
plastic bag and wack it hard with a hammer. the board won't break.
