Most glues can be used with OK success, epoxy included. Due to different
thermal expansions of wood, glue and metal, I have found these to be
very unstable with fluctuations in temperature. I have seen such
mixes pull apart when exposed to different temperatures. Specifically,
in my case, I had something that went from the refrigerator to ambient,
and that was enough for them to break apart. Any chance you can
run a screw through or use an arrangement that permits the surfaces
to move relative to one another?
