I'm surprised that no one has brought up the spray-in foam that you can
buy for custom packing.  I'm not talking about the foan insulation,
although that will probably work for small mirors.  One of the office
supply businesses used to sell it, but I don't know if they still do. 
This stuff only expands about 10% as it cures, but it sets up pretty
stiff.  You cover the shipping object with plastic wrap and spray away.
