The fundamental root cause problem to solve is keeping steady on a star.

That's solved by negating Earth's rotation, which is complicated by changing
atmosphere thickness based on pointing angle through the atmosphere,
changing gravitational vector and changing temperature/relative humidity.

That's solved by making coincident the mechanical axis of rotation, the
eyepiece/imager axis and the primary optics axis.  (One cannot discuss
optical alignment and focusing et al in depth without appealing to or
checking the "three axis coincident requirement rule".)

This is further solved by engineering various support structures.  It's the
latter where we customarily spend most of our time thinking, but unless we
keep the root cause in mind, we'll miss design opportunities.
