It's not an error, it's a feature.  Really!

Actually, there are T-nuts on BOTH sides of the wood for BOTH
adjustment knobs.  This nearly eliminates slop, and keeps the threaded
rod from wobbling, making fine adjustments smoother and easier.

With a little adjustment of the distance between the T-nuts (done with
a hammer or C-clamp) one can get the rod to thread through.

The forward-back KE adjustment on tester 2 is indeed a plastic "cup"
to put under furniture legs to protect the floor.  The lateral KE 
adjustment knob is a 2" PVC pipe cap.  Both were on hand the evening I 
built that tester.

The second tester was cheaper and built faster, but it is my favorite 
tester now because the blunt KE works better than a razor blade, and 
is less dangerous.
