Bob, I hate to disagree with you, but I would avoid putting anything int he
channels like the plague!
First off, the open channels help the grit to grind faster. Secondly, I'd
rather any left over grit fall out on the first wet of the next grit, rather
than sit in wax until I got down to 3 micron and then fall out because the
wax finally got worn, Yes, you could replace the wax, but that's too much
work!
When rough grinding I just give the mirror and tile tool a rinse and move on
to the next grit. There isn't that much difference in the grit sizes,a nd any
left over grit wil break down in the first wet. When moving between the finer
grits (like 12 micron and down), I scrub the tile tool's channels with a
toothbrush between grits (although I have neglected to do this on occasion
with no ill effects). My friends and I have made literally dozens of mirrors
this way without any incidents of scratching from leftover grit on the tool.
Clear skies.
