Active dampening is being used today commercially on skis, poles and snow
boards. see: http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6095547.html  A piezo device
is used for both sensor and actuator. Perhaps using stand alone active
dampening for each  truss pole where the vibration modes of each pole are
known (from FEA modeling). This could limit the number of DSPs needed for
the active dampening circuit.
