I've never known of the requirement of a collimated beam in doing
this test.  Rather all of the light sources that I've seen have
been the area source type where a ground glass screen is
interposed between the light source and the the surfaces under
test.
All this is not to say that you can't use a collimated source but
that method is generally a bit more difficult to obtain.
