It has been suggested one uses vacuum or mechanical stresses from bolts etc.
The ATM community has been aware that locally applied HEAT during grinding
introduces serious errors.  Perhaps one could precisely apply heat in
carefully selected places to stress the mirror to the necessary shape for
grinding. It should be much easier to control.  Just my wild thought
process.
