Re: [ATM] 32" Focal ratio

Hi Scott,

What is the largest camera you will be using with the scope? Are you figuring the mirror or is someone else? Will you be buying (or making) a focal reducer? How picky are you about the images at the edge of the field? Do you plan on doing mosaics?

Subject: [ATM] 32" Focal ratio

Hi,
I am going to be ordering a 32" mirror for a dedicated imager. The
optical path is going to be folded with a round flat, and the camera
will be between the primary and the secondary. I cannot afford RC optics so this, I feel, is my best bet. It will be a scope similar to the ones that Observatory Scope makes. I can go anywhere from f/4.5 to about f/8 without the legnth being an issue. Of course I
want the widest field possible, but I know there are going to be
trade offs. I am not sure what a custom coma corrector costs
but I anticipating needing one to obtain the widest fields possible.
The $64,000 question is: Should I stick with the longer focal legnths
or will a corrector make this a non-issue? What would YOU do in my shoes and why?
Thanks,
Scott
