Here I have to disagree with the venerable Ken Hunter. A multicoated lens will 
lose less than 0.25% of the light, (as compared to the diagonal itself, which 
if "standard" coated loses about 10%). As for this being a refractive system, 
if you use an eyepiece to observe, you already have several refractive 
elements in the light path.
