You confirmed what I was thinking. A fast mirror would
benefit more from a modified lap. The actual quote by
M.Texerau on page 95 is: "The merit of the full,
unimpaired tool, in perfect working condition, is not
a thing to sacrifice lightly". 
Sounds good to me.
