[ATM] Petal Laps, Star Laps,Starfish and other deformed creatures...

Since I am about to parabolize my 10" f6.6 plate, I
was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about using
so called "Star Laps". Many threads seem to extol the
virtues of a star pattern to keep the edges from
lagging behind the center. However, like a young
student of Kung Fu, I keep hearing my master Texerau's
warning, "Do not take lightly the condition of a
perfectly mated lap, and deform it without a good
reason, grasshopper". 
Is it really a good idea to jump out of a perfectly
good airplane and deform the lap that I have so
carefully cared for? Will I reach Parabola Nirvana or
Hyperbola Hell?
