Re cutting slots,
If this is in steel, you can get thin metal
cutoff wheels..essentially grinding wheels in
a plastic matrix to make them shatterproof.
It can be mounted in a motor or drill, strapped
down, and the slot cut by hand feeding against the
wheel, like using a tablesaw. This won't work
on aluminum or other non-ferrous metals.
The larger versions of these wheels (7-9" dia can
be mounted on a tablesaw..a *lot* of hot sparks
will be generated so don't have flammables in the vicinity..:)
Also, use safety glasses.
