RE: [ATM] Scratches
When I had an active photography darkroom, I had to install water filtration
to keep the cities water supply from scratching my negatives. It was just a
simple cartridge system from the hardware store; took a filter that looked
like cotton cord wound on a spool -- cylinder about 2 inches diameter by 12
inches high, +/-.

Check your area for wind currents, your personal
habits of where you put your hands while you are at
the polishing station, and your water supply.
Scratches can come from these often unlooked at
sources.
You do not want the polishing area to be a heavily
trafficed area during the time you are polishing.
Casual guests DO NOT UNDERSTAND the agony of seeing a
scratch after you have spent a few hundres hours
working on the glass and remember anything on the
floor or below the level of the polishing lap will
stay there unless disturbed. Some folks spend a lot of
time cleaning which in some cases just redistributes
the scratching materials back into the danger zone. I
ALWAYS SPRAY THE AREA WITH WATER FROM A SPRAY BOTTLE
and let the dust settle before opening up my polishing
area before each session and let the dust on the floor
stay there. No cleaning allowed especially vacuum
cleaners which just trap the big stuff and spit out
the finer scratch producers back into the air.
Good luck!
