Thanks for posting the pictures of your speculum mirror. Sorry about the
results but it is good that you share your experience with us.

I have never seen Speculum, but I've read about the contrary nature of
Speculum metal and its tendency to spontaneously self destruct. In your
second picture it looks very like a piece of broken glass.

I wonder how the old masters like William Herschel and the Earl of Birr
Castle got on. They made massive mirrors. We don't hear of their failures
yet they must have occurred.
