I agree that carbide insert tooling may be more of an investment than HSS.
No need for precision grinding with inserts. The new carbide inserts ain't

Full profile threading inserts produce better, stronger threads. The new
inserts work very well in thin walled and tough materials like SS. It is
easy to obtain perfect threads for Acme, UN, ISO, buttress or Whitworth by
just changing the insert. Sharp V threads for baffling can be made by using
a partial profile insert.

I will never go back to threading with HSS tools.

 Also, the new coated carbide inserts make parting off easy. I use Iscar
Do-Grip IC328 grade insert and parting off has never been better. The
geometry of the insert produces a chip narrower than the groove or slot. I
will never go back to parting off with HSS tools again!
