Re: [ATM] OT how to cut threads
>Does any one know how to cut threads on a lathe?
Here is a link to an on-line article on methods to threading in a lathe.
http://www.mmsonline.com/articles/010302.html I like full profile inserts
or topping inserts specifically for a specific thread form and pitch.
Threading to an internal shoulder at high speed is easy using the reverse
helix threading method. The insert threading tool with negative rake anvil
is pointed in the opposite direction and the feed and headstock rotation are
reversed. Threading is then from the internal shoulder out away from the
headstock. There is no art to threading. By knowing the proper technique,
right speeds, right tool (I prefer Vardex full form insert type) and some
practice anyone can produce excellent threads on most any lathe.
