[ATM] threads on threads
Thanks for filling in the gaps Bob.I would add that even fragile lathes
can cut large threads. You just take smaller cuts.My SBL model 'A' 10" is a
typical sized "tool room lathe".I take .005 per pass on the compound. This
averages out to something less then .005 because of the angle,29 1/2
degrees. The reason I use the dial instead of the stop is to watch the
progress of the tool.It gets you ready to release the half-nuts.Much like a
clock, you have the emotional readiness other means may not give you. It
allows other work besides threads.Like shoulder work.It is quite easy to
keep turned shoulders plus or minus .001 on lengths, grooves, etc. On another
subject.A local store is going out of business. They have a stack of
surveillance bubbles for cameras. They look to be about 30" in dia.I'am
wondering if they could be made into a nice little personal planetarium a
child could use.
regards,Ron
