Not always a waste of time, and actually, if you use a
voltage regulator, the LED has pretty constant photon flux.
I have done such a test and decided to polish further after
I had the correct figure based on such measurement, with
the subsequent observation of greater reflectivity. I do not
have absolute % reflectivity values, but can notice a point
of diminishin returns where a further hour of polishing
gives no increase in reflectivity. I feel confident to say
that if you polish for an additional hour and see no gain
on such a meter, you are done. Conversely, if you see it
double after one hour, you need more polishing.
