one complication i ran into when trying to figure out my cell material
dimensions was that i found that i couldn't run a tap from the top to the
bottom since the taps i could find weren't that long. you might be better
off getting rectangular material of relatively thin wall and having nuts
welded to it rather than trying to size material for tapping.

talk to your welder and get some feel for what they can do.
