Here's a formula for estimating the amount of dry Hydrostone needed for a 
given tool.  Dental plaster is probably similar.

weight_of _dry_Hydrostone = desired_tool_thickness * surface_area * 0.05

sufrace_area = radius * radius * 3.14.
