Back in the late 60's I observed an inferior conjunction of Venus
with a 16" S-C with the sun ~4 deg away. The scope was stopped down
to 4" and a lightweight cardboard baffle was mounted some 6' in front of
the scope such that direct sunlight did not enter the aperture. A
deep red filter was used for both visual and photos with a 4 x 5 Polaroid
camera..the photos showed the nearly full cirle of atmosphere. The scope
had digital readouts for position, no way could I have found the object
without them.
