ATM Definition of a truss.

There as been some misunderstanding on the list about
what is or is not a truss. Several telescope designs
with parallel poles have been called trusses. They
are not. I'm not a structural engineer so I'm not
sure what they are called. I think there are
cantilever beams.

Anyway the definition of the truss can be found here:
http://www.freeessays.cc/db/5/avk32.shtml

The defining element is that trusses have a triangular
element. And that some members are in compression or
tension. The parallel implementations create more
shear than tension or compression I think.
