RE: ATM First Light (sort of) with my 10" F-6 Dob.

Hi Rick,

I suspect the soft images at 250x are at least partially caused by viewing
from inside your house. Take your scope outside for an hour or so and then
try 250x and see if there's a difference - and having the scope well mounted
will also help. Imperfect collimation may also be contributing to the less
than sharp image at 250x as well, but I suspect the reason you didn't see
any stars at 250x when the scope was pointed straight up was because there
weren't any stars bright enough in the fov to stand up to 250x and 4%
reflection.

I did notice that when looking at the moon again later
on, if I
increased the power to 250x the view was downgraded so
too speak, not
as sharp,( i had a hard time really getting any
detail) is this how
it is suppose to be, being the mirror is uncoated or
should it still
be sharp and clear.
I know my colmination was not perfect(probably far
from it) could
that be a cause of this lose in clarity?
I did try the 6mm (250x) outside with tube standing
straight up, but
could see nothing, but when I put a 10mm
(150x)eyepiece in I could
see stars, does this sound like colmination may be at
fault?
