Re: ATM Beginner-Before I build this thing
Hey Charles et all,
I recently got really excited about using PVC tubing to build a
really cheap focuser for my just started project. I went to the local
hardware store with my brain in neutral.
I picked up several of ~2" ID threaded joints two female "ends" and
one male piece about 3" long with threads over the entire outer
surface. I thought that I could make a really nice focuser with this
and was very excited.
When I got home I realized after some fiddling that all the pieces
have tapered threads and that they won't work for a focuser. I am only
out about $5 on the experience so I am not that bummed.
To the point, does anyone out there have any idea where I can find
2" ID theaded PVC connectors that have non-tapered threads? I can't
seem to find them at my local hardware store or home depot (the
hardware store has a better selection of fittings). Someone suggested
specialty plumming houses (where i have had no luck) and my searching
online has revealed that it is hard to find what you are looking for
online. :)
Is this a "waste" exercise? I like the smoothness of the motion of
the pieces I have now until the tapering kicks in to lock them
together. I can't imagine how nice it would be to have a cheap focuser
with the same motion that I can throw together for < $10. I of course
am valuing my time at nothing which is what most all of us do here. :)
(it is more fun that way).
