ATM Two Questions

I have just recently joined the list. Seems to be a very knowledgeable group. 
I have two problems I would like to get some advise on. The first was 
mentioned by Bill of the Chabot Telescope Makers group. I have a 12.5 inch 
f/2 oblate spheroid. From the lack of comments, it seems that my best choice 
is to regrind to a more appropriate focal length, say 50-inches, and then 
either enjoy a RFT, or get adventurous and build a Cass or DK. Any 
suggestions?
    The second problem is just as strange. I have a 4-inch disk of speculum 
metal that I would like to try working into a mirror. Do any of you have 
experience working with the matal, or know where I could find such 
information? Thanks
