Re: ATM Kriege/Berry Dob book




One easy way to check your calculations is to scale the design so that one 
thickness of plywood is scaled to the thickness of a sheet of foam core 
board.  I think the stuff I used was 5mm thick.  Scale the rest of the 
dimensions, cut it out with an Exacto knife and glue it together.  You can 
use the model to check clearances, the silly "which of these is supposed to 
be 3/4" smaller" questions that are so easy to screw up, etc.  I made 
"truss tube poles" out of appropriately sized wooden dowels.  It's nice to 
check how the angles on the poles come out. The whole project took an 
afternoon.

One other thing - the model is a cool thing to have sitting on the shelf at 
work long after I finished the scope.  When people ask if I have a 
telescope I point to the model and say "it looks like that but it's 6 1/2 
feet tall".
