Bill, By prolate do you mean elliptical? If so perhaps it was some sort of Wright-Schmidt derivative. The Wright system uses a stronger Schmidt corrector with an eliptical primary to produce better image correction than the classic Schmidt corrector and a spherical mirror. Just a thought.
