The suggestion ( below ) by Dave Rowe, if followed by ATM's would probably
result in many more high quality mirrors being figured or a least figured
with a lot less aggravation.
A 4.25" f5 5/8" thick Pyrex mirror I figured a few years ago showed
readings that were absolutely excellent after this mirror sat for 45
minutes. After a 3 hour snooze I retested it and found it to be almost
spherical.
Since then all my final Focault testing is done after the mirror sits over
night on a test stand with the mask on.
