MDF is good for making things that have to be flat, compressed, and heavy.
A few laminated pieces make a good grinding machine table or mirror/tool
holder fixture.  With suitably thick silicone dabs, a small mirror cell can
made.  You can easily sand in a ROC for pitch lap bases -- H.D. has nice 12"
precut circles.  Use lots of McCloskey's Sanding Sealer, Deft, whatever...

Basically, it's particle board with finer, longer fibers.  Same
disadvantages.  Don't use for scopes -- too heavy, doesn't take screws well,
fractures and chips along the thin axis sort of like glass, etc.  Just think
about that falling-apart piece of office furniture...same deal MDF.
